Home to Camberley Athletic (friendly) Final Score: 3-1 First friendly of season Beaulieu came out 3 1 winners against Camberley Atheletic, Beaulieu took a deserved lead with a well taken goal from John Bellwood, but within a minute Camberley had equalised with the Beaulieu defence caught napping after a free kick awarded to Camberley( I thought the ref should blow his whistle before play restarted as well !!!). After the break Beaulieu took control after taking the lead with a well taken goal from Henry Batt. Camberley came back and and at times did not look they would be playing two divisions lower tham Beaulieu in the new season, with the pace of their strikers giving the Beaulieu defence plenty to think about. But the game was settled when John Monk scored a third for Beaulieu, after good work from the middle of the park. All in all not a bad first game of the season, a bit rusty, but to be expected, but plenty of plus points, Mark Pethers put in some of the best crosses we have seen in a long time, Darren Hedges strong and at times composed in the middle of the park, all strikers leading the line with great authority, the defence despite many changes throughout the game looking in control, and the midfield working well and our goalkeeper Darren Heeps looking sharp pulling off a great instinctive save through a crowd of players when no-one else had seen the ball. We can't get carried away but for a first game not too bad, still room for improvement in most departments and with a few more friendlies we be ready for our first season in the premier division. |

Date: 2nd Sept 2007 Beaulieu played their 2nd pre-season friendly, against Royal Standard, Beaulieu started lively and soon started to push Standard back, with most of the game being played in the Standard half and after approx 15 mins they took the lead with a tap in from John Bellwood after good work down the right flank from Mark Pethers. However slack defending allowed Standard to grab an equaliser, Beaulieu were awarded a free kick approx 25 yds out, taken by Nick Bellwood he floated it over everyone into the top left hand corner of the goal, Beaulieu then got a 3rd from an own goal, a wicked cross from Mark Pethers gave the defender littke chance of clearing the danger and all he could do was run the ball into his own net. Richard Putman scored a 4th after good work work from Rob o ' Flaherty running through the middle of the park. The defence were now starting to look a lot more composed and with the game safe Beaulieu made more substitions and once they regained their shape scored a 5th goal from Tommy Short from a through ball from Aaron Vaughan. Once again a bit ragged in places, but some very positive play as well, another 90 mins played to sharpen up for the coming season, with another 2 frendlies to go we are heading in the right direction

Beaulieu 1 V Hawley Select After even first half Hawley took lead with scrappy goal after Beaulieu failed to clear corner. This gave Hawley confidence and they pushed Beaulieu back trying to get a second goal to kill Beaulieu off, But Beaulieu were having none of it and started to push Hawley back and not letting them play and eventually equalised after John Monk made the keeper pull off a good save and Henry Batt was there to knock in the rebound, Beaulieu were unlucky not to score a second when John Monk hit the post with approx 30 seconds to go, but 1-1 was a fair result and both teams happy with a point at the end of the game.

Frimley Town 2 V Beaulieu 2 Beaulieu went into this game with John Monk volunteering to play in goal after our keeper Darren Heeps failed to show, not the best preparation for a game against one of the leagues stronger teams. However Beaulieu took control of the game quite early but were unable to take the lead. Frimley were awarded a penalty, which they converted to take the lead, this was the only time they had gone into the Beaulieu area. Beaulieu kept looking for an equaliser but went into half time 1-0 down. Again Beaulieu had more of the play but were not creating any clear chances, the was now scrappy and the ref was struggling to keep charge of the game. Beaulieu had to make make three sustitutions due to injuries to players , all three had to go to Frimley Park Hospital, it was handy we were playing across the road they could all limp there !!! Beaulieu had lost a bit of shape until the subs settled in, then Tommy Short collected the ball on the right, outside the area beat his marker and calmly put the ball into the top left hand corner of the net. Within a minute Beaulieu captain Nick Bellwood put Beaulieu in front with a trademark goal from outside the area. Beaulieu now looked in control of the game, but Frimley had other ideas and kept pushing forward and scored a disputed offside equaliser that when the ref chose to overule the linesman. Beaulieu continued to push for the winner and thought they had it when Tommy Short sprinted through two defenders to run onto a good through ball and slotted the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper, but the linesman raised is flag for offside and this time the ref decided to go with the linesman and disallowed the goal. All in all a scrappy game from both sides that possibly the ref could have got hold off better with some strange decisions and bookings from both teams point of view. Beaulieu were dissappointed not to take all three points from this game, although not a classic performance they showed good character coming back from a goal down and appear to be holding their own in the premier division, good performance from all defence, wide players working well but not getting enough of the ball, front men leading line well but at times not getting support they need from middle of park, Darren Hedges again a shining light never knowing a lost cause, never gives up, John Monk a good performance in goal has played in all positions for team. |
