27th January 2008 Pinewood Panthers 4 vs 4 BeaulieuA great start by Beaulieu immediately put Pinewood on the back foot, but following some sloppy passing, Pinewood slipped through to score the first of the day. Undeterred, Beaulieu carried on playing as before, confidently pushing forward but the went and repeated the same mistake and were now two behind. A fight back was now needed and that begun when Oli S thumped home Beaulieu's first. However Pinewood had other ideas and were soon two in front again when they scored their third. As half time approached, Beaulieu got another goal back courtesy of Oli S again. Following the half time talk, Beaulieu knew they needed to produce something, but try as they might, it was Pinewood who scored again to put themselves two in front again. So, with it all to do, Beaulieu kept their heads and kept plugging away, trying to get back into the game. And this they did, thanks to a great goal from Luke. With the clock now running out, a great run by George down the right wing, saw him shoot but hit the post. The rebound was received by Oli S, who collected his hat trick and put Beaulieu back on level terms. All credit to Beaulieu for never giving in and continually plugging away. Man of the Match was awarded to George |
3rd February 2008 Wey Valley Cubs 4 vs 2 Beaulieu A small pitch home advantage meant that Beaulieu were going to have to work hard today, in order to make an impression. Following a tentative start by both teams, Beaulieu kept trying to play the better football, but were being frustrated by Wey Valley having other ideas. Beaulieu's persistence was eventually rewarded when good shot by George slipped through the hands of the Wey Valley keeper. With Beaulieu failing to capitalise on their one goal lead, Wey Valley continued to pressurise and got their equaliser a short while later, followed by their second, right on the half time whistle. For the first half of the second half, Beaulieu allowed Wey Valley to rum amuck. Beaulieu were losing the ball in Wey Valley's half, who then cleared the ball into Beaulieu's half. Wey Valley then got two more goals from set pieces, before Beaulieu found their fight. Proper tackling started and a desire to win the ball began, and before we knew it George had scored another his second goal. Beaulieu had really left themselves with too much to do in too short a time, but showed good spirit in trying to the end. |
17 th February 2008 Mytchett Athletic 2 vs 0 Beaulieu Beaulieu had 75% of possession today, but failed to take advantage of this superior play. An apparent lack of desire to win the ball and pass to a fellow player ultimately cost them dear. For the first 10 minutes, the ball hardly came out of the Mytchett half, but when it did, it found itself in the back of the Beaulieu goal. It appeared that Beaulieu had it covered, but try as they might, a goal did not happen. he second half was the same story, only this time it took 20 minutes before Mytchett broke out of their half, for the 2 nd time and found the Beaulieu net. Must try harder is what Beaulieu's school report will say. |
9th March 2008 Beaulieu 4 vs 3 Headley Before the game had really started, Beaulieu were 2 goals down following some opportunist shooting by the Headley attack. Yet again, all credit to Beaulieu, as they did not lose their composure or panic, but started to play football with the composure that they are capable of. Beaulieu started getting to the ball first and following a good period of attack, Matt struck home Beaulieu's first. A belief began to return to the team and with good approach playWith Meadway unbeaten in all their outings so far this season, Beaulieu continued to fight for the ball and look for more cohesive than in previous games. With Meadway playing a long ball game, Beaulieu struggled to contain Meadway, conceding a further 3 goals before half time, but also managed to pull one back thanks to a super long range strike from Callum. ollowing a half time chat, that pointed out the Meadway tactics, Beaulieu were far more effective in the second half. Playing Meadway at their own game, saw Beaulieu having more of the ball and putting Meadway under more pressure. Beaulieu's second goal again came from a strike from outside the penalty area from George. Following some indifferent performances from Beaulieu, this was a much better effort from a team of 11 players, who were ultimately beaten by the potential league winners. |
13th April 2008 Beaulieu 3 vs 1 Mytchett Athletic After a 5 week break, due to match cancellations, Beaulieu put in a solid performance considering the long gap since they last played. As soon as the whistle blue, under clear blue skies, Beaulieu put Mytchett under immediate pressure and kept the ball in the Mytchett half. Beaulieu created many chances, but were unlucky in not scoring. The break through finally came when Sean received the ball on the right wing and put in a perfect cross, allowing Oli S to head home Beaulieu's first. Beaulieu then settled and started playing with more confidence, but although they created many chances, Beaulieu were unable to add to their score line. With black clouds massing in the distance, the second half continued under blue skies and Beaulieu dominating proceedings. Mid way through the second half, Beaulieu finally got their second goal, again thanks to the head of Oli S. After some substitutions, Beaulieu got carried away and committed too many players into attack, which allowed Mytchett to counter attack and score their goal. The rain then came, which became hail before turning into torrential rain. With 6 minutes remaining, the Referee blue up due the rain causing visibility problems. After a short break, the game continued, which stayed the same with Beaulieu maintaining most of the possession. With 2 minutes remaining, Scott put an end to who was going to win by firing in Beaulieu's third goal of the afternoon. By the time the final whistle blew, everyone was soaked to the skin, but that did not matter to a jubilant Beaulieu squad. Man of the Match went to all 16 players |
20th April 2008 Beaulieu 4 vs 2 California Hawks With the need for hats, gloves and southwesters the previous week, this game was played in more seasonal normal warmth. Beaulieu started the more confident team and looked the most likely to score first. Following a succession of strong attacks, which saw Beaulieu narrowly missing the goal on a number of occasions, Beaulieu were awarded a free kick on the edge of the California box. Following a couple of touches from Scott and Oli S, Sean struck the ball which sailed into the back of the California goal. Beaulieu then took their foot off the accelerator and this allowed California to hit the woodwork before benefiting from an overlap down their left side to equalised. With half time approaching, Beaulieu then got the psychological advantage when the ball fell to Liam on the outskirts of the penalty area, who then lobbed the ball right over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Just as the feeling of security was starting to set in, what with a goal advantage, so California struck back with a well taken to goal, to level the scores again. Beaulieu now dug deep and produced what they knew was needed and in two minutes effectively finished the game. A good period of attack delivered the ball to Oli S, who dribble through a couple of players, before slotting home Beaulieu's third goal. Two minutes later, Oli S repeated the same thing to put Beaulieu two goals in front. This seemed to break the spirit of California , and although they kept trying, Beaulieu had most of their options covered and maintained their lead until the end. Man of the Match was awarded to Oli Weeks. |
4th May 2008 Hook 3 vs 6 Beaulieu After an extended warm up period, Beaulieu got straight down to business and immediately put Hook under pressure, with plenty of fluent passing and running. There was a confidence in Beaulieu's play that has been missing of late, and it was this confidence that saw Beaulieu awarded a penalty. Oli S calmly walked up and fired the ball into the Hook net. One nil. With a goal advantage, Beaulieu continued to press the Hook defence, and when Robert played in James D, the second goal came. Beaulieu then started to suffer from injuries, the first being Marcus, who was proudly replaced by Jack. Then Scott came off second best in a strong tackle, winning the ball but suffering from bruising to the toes. Despite this, Beaulieu continued to push forward and were rewarded with yet another goal from Oli S. Hook started the second half well and with the Beaulieu defence missing Scott, Hook managed to start to claw back the deficit. Oli S then stopped the advance by getting his hat trick and putting Beaulieu another goal ahead. A third from Hook gave them hope, but they hadn't figured on Luke striking in Beaulieu's 5 th . With time running out, Scott made a brave return to the field, popped in a dangerous free kick which was finally picked up by Luke and slotted into the back of the Hook net. An excellent performance from a rejuvenated Beaulieu squad. Man of the Match was awarded to Jack. |
7th May 2008 Beaulieu 2 vs 3 Hart
After a hard day at school and on the warmest day of the year so far, Beaulieu's finest 16 met Hart's 11. Beaulieu initially took command of the game and kept Hart trapped inside their own half. Whenever Hart ventured into the Beaulieu half, the defensive four had them covered. The deadlock was finally broken when Lewis played the ball to Robert, who then set Oli W in motion down the right wing and sent the ball into the back of the Hart net. Beaulieu kept the pressure on Hart and were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. A well taken strike by Oli S then bounced off the top of the crossbar and ended up out of play. Hart then found a second wind and started to exploit some overlaps being offered by Beaulieu and with a well taken shot, levelled the score.
Hart found a desire that was missing in Beaulieu and stretched their advantage, first with a penalty, which Marcus fantastically stopped first time, but was then beaten by the follow up, and then with another well struck shot. This seemed to be the wake up call to Beaulieu who then started playing with some renewed passion. With time running out, Oli S connected with the ball in the Hart area and pulled one back. Beaulieu gamely tried to get an equaliser, but Hart maintained a strong defence and were not going to be breached, so ran out the victors. Man of the Match was awarded to Marcus.
