Beaulieu Jets v Beaulieu Rockets

9th September 2007

Result 5-0

Half Time 0-0

A bright sunny mourning greeted our two teams for their first seeding match of the 2007/08 season.   This first game saw our two teams drawn to play each other which was always going to be a difficult game for both teams.

This year we had made a few changes to the two line ups so this game would allow us to see how the two teams would begin to develop.

The game started at a high pace with both teams moving the ball around well.  A number of chances fell to both teams.  The Jets had the majority of these chances pushing hard although not quite managing to finish off the attacks.  As half time arrived the scoreline remained 0-0 and despite the attacking football played by both teams neither goalkeeper had been significantly challenged.

The second half started in a similar way with the Jets continuing to attack.  Finally the deadlock was broken by Matt with a fine shot from outside the penalty area.  This goal served to lift the Jets and at the same time knock the Rockets.  With their increase in confidence the Jets scored a further 4 goals, 2 for Jack, 1 for James and 1 for Daniel on his Beaulieu league debut.

Despite the scoreline both teams had performed well.  The Jets had controlled performance with all players sticking to the team formation.  The Rockets showed some good individual skill.  With a little work on their positioning and teamwork I am sure they will return to winning ways.

For the Jets Matt was named man of the match his quality performance and tireless running.

Potley Lions v Beaulieu Jets
Result 0-7
Half Time 0-2

Another bright morning greeted the Jets for their first away game of the season and the team still buoyant after last weeks result. This game pitted the Jets against Potley Lions in a game that will be considered as a local derby.

Having won the toss the Jets chose to play downhill with the wind behind them in the first half, the plan being to get the job done by half time. Straight from the kick off the Jets went on the attack and enjoyed long passages of play although didn't manage any significant goal scoring opportunity. Despite keeping the ball in the opposition half for long periods and winning a number of corners the Jets never really troubled the Lions goalkeeper. Just after halfway through the first half the Jets opened their account for the day with a well taken goal by Matt. This was followed shortly by an own goal by the unfortunate Lions defender who while trying to prevent a cross reaching the strikers deflected the ball into his own net. As Potley tried to recover from two quick goals the Jets continued to pile on the pressure. The pick of this attacking football was Matt's shot from the halfway which was well saved by the goalkeeper. Had that of gone in it would certainly been a contender for goal of the season.

Although at halftime the Jets had a comfortable 2-0 lead they faced the disadvantage of playing uphill in the second half and no-one was sure if the 2 goal lead would be enough. Spectators needn't have worried as the Jets returned to the field with the same determination as before. As the Lions tired the Jets continued to pile on the pressure and soon more goals came. 2 further goals from Matt, completing his hat-trick, followed by 2 goals from James and 1 from Jack put the game beyond reach. This gave the Jets the opportunity to allow players to play in different positions. Chad came out of goal and was given freedom to play wherever he wanted and Ben and Zach were encouraged to leave their defensive positions.

This was a competitive local derby with fine football played by both teams. The Jets continued the season with a disciplined display with all players working hard to maintain the team shape and formation.

Man of the match was awarded to Tommy who played with his usual enthusiasm but with more positional awareness although the award could have been given to any one of the squad.

23rd Sept 2007 Beaulieu Jets v Elm Grove Rhinos

Result 0-2

Half Time 0-1

This week saw Beaulieu Jets back at home entertaining Elm Grove Rhinos. This was going to be a tough game for the Jets, not only because the Rhino's arrived unbeaten but the Jets were still buoyed by their own two victories.

As the game started the Jets played at a slower pace than the previous weeks and although they continued to hold a strong defensive line there seemed to be quite a gap forming in the midfield. The game flowed from end to end in a very even match with neither team managing to get hold of it or find the final ball or meaningful shot on goal. The deadlock was broken late into the first half with a quick break by the Rhino's, who found space in midfield then managed to get numbers forward to get through the Jets Defence to score.

Half time came but the Jets seemed unable to pick up the pace. Despite having long spells of possession in the second half no clear chances could be made or taken. The Rhino's second goal was similar to their first with them getting numbers forward against a stretched defence. Despite the result a number of positive things could be taken from the game. Once again the defensive shape had been evident and there was no lose of determination from any of the players even after conceding.

Man of the match this week was awarded to Zach who had defended strongly making a number of important tackles as well as setting off on a number of runs to start Jet's attacks. Thanks go to Rob for agreeing to referee this game. Looking back he must have had a good game as I didn't really notice him.
30th September 2007 Hart Hurricanes v Beaulieu Jets

Result 1-4

Half Time 1-0

Back on their travels this week and the Jets visited Hart Hurricanes who play their games in Fleet.

The game started at a high pace with the Jets controlling the game and keeping the vast majority of the possession. The Jets managed a number of good passing moves although never really troubled the Hurricanes goalkeeper.

As the first half progressed the Jets continued to pile on the pressure winning a number of corners but not finding the final shot. As the game neared half-time the Jets, probably over-confident, let their formation slip. With the defence out of position Hart's first real attack saw them two against two against one ending with a well taken goal.

At half-time no one was really sure how the Jets were one down but this obviously spurred them on. The second half again started brightly with more attacking football from the Jets. Although this was a much more even half the Jets kept their shape which allowed them to deal with each of the Hurricanes attacks. Finally the Jets duck was broken when James intercepted a Hurricanes throw, then turned and hit a fine half volley into the net.

This goal really got the Jets running and was soon followed by more goals. A second hat-trick of the season from Matt put the game out of reach for the for the Hurricanes. With the game effectively over the Jets swapped it about with Ben and Zach pushing forward into attacking roles and the Jets goal being defended by a combination of Daniel, Jack and James who each took their turns at defensive duties.

Man of the match this week was awarded to James for his hard work in all positions and for scoring the first Jets goal that had looked like it would never come.

7th October 2007 Beaulieu Jets v Elm Grove RhinosResult 2-2

Half Time 1-2

A first league game for the Jets saw a home fixture against Elm Grove Rhinos the only team to have beaten the Jets in the seeding games.  Despite the previous defeat the Jets went into the game full of confidence feeling that the previous result had not been a completely fair reflection of the previous meeting.

The Jets got off to a rocky start and seemed unsure of their positions as the Rhinos pushed forward with an early attack on the Jets goal.  As the game settled both teams gained composure and a close match followed.

The Rhino's took the lead with a quick break that the Jets defence were unable to deal with.  However the Jets did not allow this to break their spirit as they went back on the attack.  Within a couple of minutes the game had been levelled by a well taken goal by Matt, who shot fiercely past the Rhino's goalkeeper.

The game continued with both teams trading attacking moves.  Although the Jets probably just shaded possession it was the Rhino's who retook the lead with another good break.

After the half-time break the Jets continued to pile on the pressure putting some good passing moves together although struggling to keep possession as they neared the Rhino's goal.  Finally Matt levelled the game when playing across the pitch he found enough space to hit a powerful right foot shot which the keeper could only watch pass him.

The remainder of the game was evenly balanced with more attacking football from both teams until the referee blew for full time and the points were shared.

A good performance from the Jets in their first league game in division 2.  Man of the Match was awarded to Ben who had, after being released from his defensive duties, looked bright and comfortable on the ball.

League Game - 14 th October 2007

Beaulieu Jets v Frimley Green Rhinos

Result 0-9

Half Time 0-2

The second league game for the Jets saw a visit by Frimley Green Rhinos. The Jets went into the game with their confidence high following last weeks draw although with some trepidation as, now results are published on the web, some players were aware of the Rhinos big win in their previous game.

The match kicked off at a good pace and for the first 10 minutes it was an even game. Both teams played some good football with good attacking moves from both teams cancelled out by strong defending. The Jets for their part passed the ball well but the Rhinos began increasing the pressure on the Jets defence.

Midway through the first half the Rhinos took the lead following a good move that the Jets could not break down. This was quickly followed by a second Rhinos goal as the Jets shape began to fall apart. Fortunately the half time whistle blew which gave the Jets a chance to regroup.

Despite being two goals down at the halfway point the Jets remained full of confidence. They had made a number of good opportunities although not really troubled the Rhinos goal and had an equal share of the possession. After the break the Jets retook the field keen to level the game. It was from that point on that things went from bad to worse.

The Rhinos started the second half strongly and piled almost constant pressure on the Jets defence and goal. As the Jets struggled to get out of their own half the Rhinos looked as if they would score with every attack. The Rhinos even had luck on their side as following a good save, pushing the ball onto his post, Chad was hit by the rebound and the ball trickle into the goal. The Rhinos went on to score 7 goals in the second half with the game ending 0-9.

All of the Jets players had worked hard throughout the game but Man of the Match this week was awarded to Adam who had continued to try despite the score-line.

League Game - 28 th October 2007

Gomshall Rams v Beaulieu Jets

Result 6-2

Half Time 4-2

A long drive out to Dorking for the latest league game for the Jets and a match against Gomshall Rams. The weather was not looking kind this week and a kick off approached the heavens opened. Despite the weather the Jets were keen to get the game underway.

The game started fairly evenly with both teams playing the ball around well with neither team threatening the oppositions goal. The Rams looked strong from set pieces and especially corners with deep crosses putting the Jets defence under pressure. It was from a corner that the Rams in front when a long high corner was turned into the Jets net.

As often happen this was the encouragement that the Jets needed and from the kick off went straight to the Rams goal with a good passing move which was well finished by Matt.

Another Rams corner led to their second goal. Although the initial corner was dealt with by the Jets defence who cleared the ball a powerful long range shot from the Rams midfield buried itself in the goal.

Again the Jets responded well again with Matt finishing off a Jets attack with his own long range goal. The Rams scored another two before halftime making the score 4-2 at the break. Despite this all of the Jets players were upbeat and took to the field full of confidence for the second half.

Although full of confidence the Jets defensive shape fell apart early in the second half and two more Rams goals killed the game off. The Jets continued to work hard for the remainder of the game but with time running out found the game slip from their reach.

Even though the Jest had lost the match they had played well for much of the game which was a lot closer than the score would suggest, this was a sentiment that was echoed by the Rams manager and spectators.

Man of the match this week was awarded to Jack who had worked hard in both attack and midfield:

League Game - 4th November 2007

Beaulieu Jets v Rushmoor Saints Eagles

Result 1-2

Half Time 0-1

Back at home this week and the Jets entertained Rushmoor Saints Eagles. On first look it was not clear if the game would get underway as thick fog covered the pitch but as kick off approached the fog began to lift and the game kicked off on time.

A very close first half began with good football played by both teams. The Eagles were showing that they were a well organised team that had obviously been well drilled in their positions and team formation.

Early on the Jets came closest to scoring having put the Eagles defence and goal under significant pressure. Corners, free kicks and shots went in but never quite troubled the goal. The Jets should have taken an early lead from a free kick but they were unable to get the ball through the crowded penalty area.

The Eagles had their own attacking chances but Chad in the Jets goal was having a good game commanding his area and bravely coming out to claim the ball and break up the attacks.

Attacks continued to be traded between the two teams but it was the visitors who took the lead towards the end of the first half. The half time break gave the Jets a chance to regroup and to return to the field full of confidence.

As the second half kicked off the Jets again started strongly and were rewarded by an equalising goal, scored by Matt. Unfortunately for the Jets they could not build on this and midway through the second half the Eagles retook the lead which they held onto until the final whistle was blown.

Man of the Match this week was unanimously awarded to Chad who had had a magnificent game in goal which was full of confidence and bravery.

League Game - 11th November 2007

Hart Hurricanes v Beaulieu Jets

Result 2-4

Half Time 1-2

With Martin absent from the sidelines this week Rob took the Jets back to Hart Hurricanes this week. Having played and beaten the Hurricanes in the seeding games the Jets went into the fixture full of confidence.

The Jets seemed to be playing better this week and passed the ball around well while holding a good team shape. It was the Jets that took the lead with what will be possibly one of the luckiest goals we will see all season. Jack played a long pass forward but it was left by everybody and the ball trickled into the net.

Buoyed by the early goal the Jets did not get going following the restart and the Hurricanes levelled the score line almost immediately. The Jets were undeterred by this setback but it did serve to refocus them as they went back onto the attack.

The Jets returned to the passing football and after putting much pressure on the Hurricanes defence retook the lead with a well taken goal by James. Half time came and went and the Jets continued to play entertaining football. Two more goals, both scored by Matt put the game beyond the Hurricanes reach.

Now being 4-1 up the Jets seemed to relax and allowed themselves to be put under pressure by a Hurricanes team who were not going to give up. The pressure led to a second goal for the home team.

As the final whistle was blow the Jets celebrated their first league win of the season in what had been a good game. All of the players had played well but Man of the Match was awarded to Jack who had worked hard in an unfamiliar midfield role.

Thanks to Rob for looking after the team this week. Finally, I apologise for any inaccuracies in this report. I have tried to piece it together from talking to both the players and the parents who were there.

League Game – 18th November 2007

Beaulieu Jets v Knaphill Wanderers

Result 3-3

Half Time 1-0

Back at home this week and the Jets were riding high following their victory last week. The visitors to Firgrove Road were Knaphill Wanderers who came into the game second in the table. The Jets tried some positional changes this week with Daniel moving back into defence with Zach, and James and Jack swapping their roles in midfield and upfront.

From the first whistle the Jets went on the attack and long passages of play took place in the Wanderers half. Good passing moves between Matt, James, Jack and Tommy saw the Jets make a number of chances with shots going close. The Wanderers did have a few attacking moves in the first half but the Jets defence stood firm managing to stop the attacks leaving Chad in goal with very little to have to do.

As the first half drew to a close the Jets continued to pile on the pressure winning a number of corners. From the third corner in quick succession the Wanderers were unable to clear the ball from their area and after an a bit of a scramble Daniel poked the ball home giving the Jets a deserved lead.

The halftime break came and went and all the players returned to the pitch. The Wanderers played with greater determination and managed a number of attacks that needed saves from Chad in the Jets goal.

The Jets continued with their attacking football and created a number of good chances however it was a goal for the Wanderers that followed levelling the game. Not disheartened by this the Jets went back on the attack and were soon rewarded by a second goal, well taken by Matt.

The Jets continued to push on and were soon rewarded with a third goal, a second for Matt, which came as a result of a good passing move between Ben, Tommy and James.

As the Jets sat back slightly on a 3-1 lead the Wanderers began to increase the pressure on the Jets defence. Although the defence managed to deal with most of this pressure the Wanderers grabbed a second goal. As the game went into the last few minutes the Jets tried to hold on to their slender lead. Unfortunately this saw them sit back and allow the Wanderers the chance to put the Jets goal under constant pressure. A number of attacks were stopped although a ball that should have been cleared to safety was picked up by the Wanderer's attacker who finally scored to level the game.

matter of seconds after the equalising goal the referee blew the final whistle and the game had been drawn. This had been a great performance by the Jets who had played well against a strong team. This week man of the match was awarded to Daniel who had played well in an unfamiliar defensive position while providing support to the midfield and attack

League Game – 2nd December 2007

Mayford Rovers v Beaulieu Jets

Result 1-2

Half Time 0-0

Wet and miserable was the only way to describe the weather for today's game but despite the considerable amount of rain the pitch was still playable for the Jets game at Mayford Rovers.

The Jets didn't let the rain bother them and despite being down to the a bare 7 players took to the field full of confidence and enthusiasm. For the first half the Jets had a slight advantage of playing with the wind and they set off at a high pace. A number of good attacks followed with good passing between the Jets players although none of these really troubled the Rovers goal.

The Jets maintained this pressure throughout the first half and spent long spells in the opposition half. Good chances were made by Matt, Jack and Tommy but the Rovers defence and goalkeeper managed to keep the ball from going in. The Rovers towards the end of the first half managed a few attacks into the Jets half but the team defended well and cleared the threat without any real pressure on their goal.

From the start of the second half the Jets were back on the attack with good moves being worked down the left wing. This continued pressure finally paid off when having worked the ball down the left wing Jack crossed the ball and Daniel tucked the ball away. This was shortly followed by a second which would of, had it been available, been the subject of multiple TV replays. Again the ball was played down the left wing and crossed by Jack, Daniel headed the ball back away from the Rovers goal and Matt struck the ball firmly into the back of the net.

Now 2 goals up the Jets relaxed and came under a much increased level of pressure. Although they defended well with some good saves from Chad in the Jets goal the Rovers managed to pull one goal back with only seconds remaining.

his was the last real action of the match and the points were safe for the Jets. Man of the Match this week was awarded to Chad who, in goal, had remained focussed on the game and made some good saves when required
